The Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students (NASS), University of Ilorin Chapter, has held the maiden edition of a market exhibition, tagged “Ipate Oja” (Display of Market.)
The event, held last Tuesday (April 22, 2025) at the premises of the Faculty of Agriculture, brought together student vendors from across different Faculties who showcased and sold a wide variety of goods ranging from accessories and clothing to snacks and local delicacies.
The initiative was made open to both students and non-students alike, with the aim of promoting inclusivity and economic collaboration.
The Vice President of the Faculty Students’ Association, Miss Bello Musana, a 400 level student of Home Economics and Food Science, told UNILORIN Bulletin that the programme was inspired by the need to create internal opportunities for student business owners.
Musana, popularly known as Modesty, said, “Pate Oja was borne out of a desire to do more for our students. As the Faculty’s Vice President, I believe it was time for us to support our entrepreneurs too. This fair allows them to showcase their businesses, expand their customer base, and grow in confidence.”
She expressed gratitude to the University Management for the support received so far and appealed for greater involvement in future editions.
The initiative was a collective effort by the NAAS Executive Council. The President of the Association, Sherif Mayowa, a 500 level student of Agricultural Economics, played a pivotal role in the planning and execution of the event.
Also speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin, the Association’s Staff Adviser, Prof. Fatima Olabisi Adekola of the Department of Agronomy, noted that the event has not only made a strong statement but it has also set a promising precedent for student-led entrepreneurship on campus.
