Governing Council honours Omotesho, Ambali for outstanding services

The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, led by Surv. Abiodun Aluko, has presented letters of commendation to the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, and the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the University during their tenure.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, presented the letters to the duo on behalf of the Governing Council at a brief ceremony held in his office last Tuesday (February 24, 2025).

Speaking at the event, Prof. Egbewole noted that the commendations were a reflection of the Council’s deep appreciation of the pivotal roles played by the two former Deputy Vice-Chancellors in advancing the academic and administrative landscape of the University.

The Vice Chancellor said, “The Council, at its last meeting, mandated the Registrar to write letters of commendation to the immediate past DVC (Academic) and the immediate past DVC (Management Services) for their significant contributions to the growth and development of the University during their tenure.”

Prof. Egbewole pointed out that Prof. Omotesho and Prof. Ambali, in their respective roles, were instrumental in implementing key policies and programmes that enhanced both the academic excellence and administrative efficiency of the institution. He added that their leadership and dedication contributed immensely to the continued progress of the University of Ilorin.

In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellors expressed their appreciation to the University Governing Council and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, for the honour bestowed upon them through the letters of commendation.

Prof. Ambali described the recognition as a reflection of the commitment of the University to acknowledging hard work and dedication, stating that the gesture reinforces the institution’s culture of valuing individuals who have significantly contributed to its development.

On his part, Prof. Omotesho explained the importance of appreciation and recognition in inspiring commitment among University staff. He said that when the smallest contribution is acknowledged, it will serve as motivation for others to dedicate themselves to the service of the University.

The former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and the Governing Council for the thoughtful recognition accorded him and his colleague after their tenure.

The Letter of Commendation addressed to Prof. Ambali and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, says, “On behalf of the Council, Senate and Management, I write to formally acknowledge and appreciate your outstanding contributions to the University during your tenure as Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Management Services), which commenced on 19th December, 2022, and ended on 23rd January, 2025.

“Your leadership and expertise have been instrumental in driving the University’s strategic objectives, and your commitment to excellence has been evident in all aspects of your work. You have successfully implemented various initiatives and projects that have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the University’s management services, and your collaboration with other members of the University community has been exemplary.

“The University has benefited significantly from your service, and your contributions will have a lasting impact on the institution. Please accept our warmest appreciation and commendation for a job well done.

“I wish you the best in your future endeavours and hope that you will continue to be a source of inspiration and guidance to the University community.”

Similarly, the letter written to Prof. Omotesho says, “On behalf of the Council, Senate and Management, I write to formally acknowledge and appreciate your outstanding contributions to the University during your tenure as Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Academic), which commenced on 19th December, 2022, and ended on 23rd January, 2025.

“Your leadership and vision have been instrumental in promoting academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the University community. Your commitment to ensuring that our students receive a world-class education has been unwavering, and your efforts to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship have been truly inspiring.

“The University has made significant strides in various areas, including curriculum development, research, and student affairs under your guidance. Your ability to bring people together and build consensus has been remarkable, and your door had always been open to students and staff who seek your advice and guidance.

“As you complete your tenure, I want to express our deepest gratitude for your service to the University. Your dedication, expertise, and passion for academic excellence have made a lasting impact on our Institution, and we are forever grateful for your contributions.

“Please accept my warmest appreciation and commendation for a job well done. I wish you the best in your future endeavours and hope that you will continue to be a source of inspiration and guidance to the University.”
