Azeez congratulates Mass Comm. Dept on 10th anniversary of cleaning exercise

The Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, Prof. Lukman Adesina Azeez, has congratulated the Department of Mass Communication on sustaining its annual cleaning exercise for the past 10 years.

Prof. Azeez, who was represented by the Sub-Dean, Dr Emos Bajeh, gave the commendation penultimate Thursday (February 6, 2025), while addressing the students and their staff Coordinator, Prof. Lambe Kayode Mustapha, at the Faculty premises.

The Dean attributed the good reputation of the Faculty to the annual cleaning exercise, which earned it a commendation from the University Management as one of the cleanest faculties in the University.

He advised the students to maintain the high standard of cleanliness, emphasising that the 10-year-old FCIS cleaning initiative should not be limited to the Department of Mass Communication alone, but rather replicated in other Departments within the Faculty, saying, “Cleanliness is next to godliness.”

In his remarks, the Ag. Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Patrick Udende, congratulated the Department on the exercise, describing the cleaning initiative as highly commendable. He urged the students to maintain the high standard of cleaning during their engagement and extend it to their various hostels and homes on a regular basis for health purposes.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Lecturer in charge of International Communication, Prof. Mustapha, called on Mass Communication students to be ambassadors of cleanliness wherever they find themselves, emphasising the importance of maintaining a sustainable environment.

Prof. Mustapha acknowledged that while some individuals will continue to litter, students should take the initiative to remind them to dispose of waste properly.

Prof. Mustapha said, “Cleanliness is a way of life that humans cannot do without. Even worshiping God involves cleanliness, and the same applies to our environment.”

He urged students to set an example by promoting cleanliness and environmental responsibility, stressing that small actions can lead to significant positive change.

Also speaking during the exercise, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Rasaq Adisa, described this year’s celebration as a special one, as it marked ten years of non-stop cleaning not just the Department of Mass Communication but the whole Faculty. He also appreciated the students for making themselves available for the exercise.
