Unilorite Wins 2025 World Cancer Day Competition

A 500-level student in the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Aminu Habeeb, has emerged victorious in the 2025 World Cancer Day Presentation Competition.

The event, held at the Kwara State Banquet Hall last Tuesday (February 4, 2025), was organised by the Kwara State Ministry of Health in partnership with the Office of the First Lady of Kwara State.

As the Students’ Union Welfare Secretary for the College of Health Sciences, Aminu represented the University of Ilorin at the “Conquer Cancer School Challenge” competition. He excelled in the competition, which focused on cervical cancer, prostate cancer, and breast cancer, with questions designed to enhance awareness and knowledge of these prevalent cancers.

Aminu’s outstanding performance earned him the First Lady’s Prize for Cancer Awareness. His presentation effectively debunked common myths about cancer and helped dispel widespread misconceptions in society.

The competition attracted participants from other prominent tertiary institutions in Kwara State. Also in attendance were Sarah Oreoluwa Olukorode, Students’ Union Vice President (COHS); Rahma Olubukola Ganiyu, Assistant General Secretary; and members of the Faculty of Life Sciences Central Executive Council, led by Vice President Sharon OluwaDara.

Aminu’s achievement confirms the University of Ilorin’s commitment to excellence and its students’ dedication to creating positive change in their communities.
