In a heartwarming display of philanthropy, a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Performing Arts and Film Production, University of Ilorin, Mr Seun Okinbaloye, returned to his roots penultimate Friday (January 17, 2025), donating a sum of N2 million to the Department from where he graduated in 2004.
The renowned Channels Television anchor was the Chief Guest of Honour (Chief Priest) at the induction ceremony for new students of the Department, a ritual that marks their transition into the world of Performing Arts.
Mr Okinbaloye, who earmarked the donated fund for facility upgrades at the Department, was treated to a captivating performance by the inductees, titled “Once upon an Elephant,” which lasted for an hour and a half. Following the show, the veteran broadcaster performed the traditional induction ritual and offered prayers for the new students.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Director of Academic Planning and member of the University Governing Council, Prof. Abdulrasheed A. Adeoye, and lecturers in the Department, including Dr Taiye Shola Adeọla, Dr Felix Akinsipe, Dr Shuaib Peju, and Dr Arinde Tayo.
Parents of the inductees were also in attendance, beaming with pride as they watched their children take their first steps into the world of the performing arts.
