Unilorin Senate elects Bakare-Odunola, Etudaiye, new DVCs
The Senate of the University of Ilorin has elected Professor Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Professor Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye of the Faculty of Law, new Deputy Vice Chancellors of the institution.
Their elections, in compliance with the University’s Miscellaneous Provision of Decree No. 25 of 1996, was a major highlight of the 304th (Special) Meeting of the University Senate held last Thursday (January 23, 2025).
Following the Senate approval, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, said their appointments will be forwarded to the University Governing Council for final approval in accordance with the condition of service. He also announced the redesignation of Professor Adegboyega Fawole, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation), as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services).

Prof. Bakare-Odunola
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Designate
Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola is a professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Iloirn, Kwara State, Nigeria. She studied Biochemistry in 1984 at University of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria, Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 1987 and 1992 respectively at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria.
In 1987, Prof. Bakare-Odunola started her academic career in ABU, Zaria as an Assistant Lecturer and became a Professor in 2006 in the same university. She transferred her 25 years of services and wealth of experience from ABU, Zaria to the University of Ilorin in 2012 where she headed the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry.
She was the President of the Science Association of Nigeria, Coordinator; African Centre for Herbal Research, Ilorin (ACHRI), and she is currently the Director of Centre for Management and Leadership. She is the immediate past Dean of the Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin (2021-2023). She was the Desk Officer of the Association of West Africa University (AWAU) for Unilorin.
She is also a member of the Governing Council of University of Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria. She has supervised over 100 Undergraduate, 60 M.Sc., and 8 Ph.D. students of which some of them are now Professors. Prof. Bakare-Odunola has attended and presented papers at conferences and workshops as well as published books and academic papers in reputable journals both National and International.
Her research interest areas are on biopharmaceutics, phytomedicines, drug discovery and developments in general. She is serving as a consultant for the National University Commission (NUC) and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). She is a fellow of the Institute of Public Analysis of Nigeria, a fellow of the Science Association of Nigeria, and a member of many professional bodies.
A board member of STANTALL AFRICAL and a life member of the West African Society of Pharmacology. Prof. Bakare-Odunola is happily married to Dr. Rasheed Odunola and they are blessed with children.
Professor Etudaiye
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation) Designate
Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye is a Professor of Law at the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. He has written articles in both national and international journals of repute such as the Essex Human Rights Review, Lexigentia, Journal of Malaysian and Comparative Law, Journal Jurisprudence, and the IIC – International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law amongst others.
He has been Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Law (2010-2012) and Head of Department, Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin (2012-2014). For a period spanning 2010 to 2015, he was a Member, of the Legal Committee of the National Council on Privatisation, Nigeria.
His areas of interest include the Construction of Statutes with emphasis on Compliance Guaranty Mechanisms, Clinical Legal Education, general Jurisprudence and Legal Theory as well as Human Rights Law.
