Engineering alumni  donate Computer sets to Department

Members of the 2007 graduating set of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Engineering, University of Ilorin, have donated a set of the latest computers and printers to their alma mater.

At an event held at the office of the Head of the Department, Dr A. I. Abdullateef, last Thursday (January 16, 2025), the President of the group, Dr O.O. Ogundile of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ikenne, Ogun State noted that the Department and indeed the University of Ilorin had equipped them to get to their current stations in life. He noted that though some of their classmates have died, members of the class are generally doing fine, with about 30 of them working in Canada.

Dr Ogundile noted that the Class of 2007 decided that the Department deserves only the best computers available in the market.

He commended Dr Ayinde Muhammed Usman, who is the Alumni Relations Officer of the Faculty and a member of the Class of 2007, for bringing the group together.

He also  revealed that the class would soon unveil scholarships for six students in appreciation of the subsidised education they received while studying at the University.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Jamiu  Odusote, appreciated the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Class of 2007 for their thoughtfulness and generosity.

He noted that every Nigerian graduate of a public university enjoyed high quality but thoroughly subsidised education and therefore has every reason to be patriotic.

He urged the donors to always keep the class together, noting that everyone is endowed with different comparative advantage.

The Head of the Department, Dr A. I. Abdullateef described the class of 2007 as one with impacts on the University, as he recalled the donation of a Graphics Room earlier made by the class to the Department.

While appreciating his former students, Dr Abdullateef noted that the donation is a true empowerment, which will have a multiplier effect because the students who would be using the equipment are also learning to be generous to their alma mater and others.

Other speakers at the event included the University Alumni Relations Officer, Mr Musbau Jimoh; the Faculty Alumni Relations Officer, Dr Ayinde Muhammed Usman and the President of the National Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Students Association, University of Ilorin, Muhammed Sulaimon
