UNILORIN Female football team wins APFAN League

The University of Ilorin Female Football Team (Unilorin Golden Warriors) has emerged victorious in the 2023/2024 Association of Football Academies of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter League, marking a historic achievement for the University.

This was disclosed in a memo made available by the Director of Sports, University of Ilorin, Prof Tajudeen Ibraheem, to the UNILORIN Bulletin.

The team triumphed over the Model Queens Football Team in the final match held at the Kwara Football Academy Pitch, of the Kwara State stadium complex on December 16, 2024.

The Kwara APFAN League is one of the new leagues in Kwara State, which aims at developing the football game at the grassroots level in both male and female categories. The League, which was played home and away format, is first in the history of football in Kwara State that captured various communities within the state.

In his reaction, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has celebrated the team’s victory, describing it as a proud moment for the University. He added that with this victory, the Unilorin Female Football Team has cemented its place as a powerhouse in Nigerian university sports.

Speaking after the victory, the Team’s Coach Gabriel Fadayomi, commended the players for their dedication and resilience throughout the season.

Other participating teams at the League were the Sunrise FA, Ilorin; Bashmed FA, Ilorin, Laderin FC, Ilorin; Biola Babes, Offa; Winning Stars Expresses, Omu Aran; Olabim Queens, Oke Oyi; and Model Queen, Akerebiata.
