Imbibe UNILORIN’s conditions of service, Alfanla urges staff

The Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has admonished staff of the University to always ensure strict adherence to the institution’s conditions of service.

Mr Alfanla gave this admonition penultimate Saturday (December 14, 2024) while speaking at a retreat organised by the Ilorin Emirate Staff Association at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Ilorin.

The Registrar, who is also the Secretary to the University Governing Council, urged staff of the University to always be dutiful, loyal, punctual and exemplary in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Mr Alfanla reminded the staff  that right from the moment they accepted the offer of employment extended to them by the University they have entered into a covenant with the University and they must, therefore, not do anything against its interest.

The Registrar, who previously served as the Chairman of the institution’s chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), added that it is incumbent on all the staff of the University to ensure that their community engagement activities do not negatively affect the discharge of their duties to the University.

He also appealed to the staff of the University to be moderate in whatever they do as he said that the University system does not exist for money making.

While he urged those who cannot abide by the rules to disengage themselves from the University, Mr Alfanla warned that any staff that run afoul of the University’s conditions of service would be punished accordingly.

In his address, the Keynote Speaker, Prof. Adedayo Yusuf Abdulkareem, described the conditions of staff of the University as being among the best in Nigeria.

Prof. Abdulkareem, who is a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, urged members of the Association to keep themselves updated with necessary skills and knowledge to enable them enjoy career progression.

The Keynote Speaker charged members of the Association to ensure that they leave worthy legacy in the University, saying that doing so is a duty they owe their ancestral community.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Association, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, said that the retreat was organised to instill better work attitudes in members.

He charged members of the Association to become role models among their colleagues as he said that members of the Association must always be seen as working for the progress of the University.

  Prof. Ambali, who commended the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for being fair to all, urged members of the Association to always ensure that they prioritise attitudes that would enhance their careers and promote the image of the Ilorin Emirate community and not otherwise.

The event also witnessed paper presentations on divergent issues, especially pertaining to building successful career by the Deputy Director of the Academic Planning Unit, who is also a Member of the University Governing Council, Mr AbdulRasheed Gidado Dauda; the Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof. Baba Abdullahi Alafara, and the Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Prof. Salihu Moyosore Ajao.
