
Sanusi hails Gov. AbdulRazaq’s support for CILS

The management of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Foundation School, University of Ilorin, last Wednesday (December 18, 2024) organised an orientation programme for its newly admitted students at the African Hall, Mini-Campus of the institution.
In his opening remarks, the Director of JUPEB, Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam, noted that JUPEB is a transit point for the students to enter the mainstream of the University of Ilorin. He highlighted the opportunities available to the students that would enable them to become full-fledged undergraduates.
The Director noted that the programme would provide students with foundational knowledge and skills needed for real university education.
Prof. Adam urged the students to be disciplined and focused, saying “the choices you make at this transit point will shape the path ahead.”
On her part, the Deputy Registrar, Unilorin JUPEB, Mrs Muibat A. Egbewole, advised the students to make the best use of their time in the school and face their studies squarely so as to achieve their main aim of coming to the school.
Also speaking, the Director of the University Health Services, Dr Rasheed Odunola, emphasised the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being throughout the rigorous academic year.
Dr Odunola provided valuable tips on staying healthy and accessing medical services available at the University Health Services.
The Director of Security Services, who was represented by Mr Suberu Ibrahim, encouraged the students to be vigilant and adhere to security protocols to ensure a secure learning environment.
On his part, the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, highlighted the importance of effective communication and maintaining the institution’s reputation as he urged the students to be responsible ambassadors of the University.
Noting that for most of the students, this would be their first real freedom from “regulated home and school environment where the times to sleep, wake up, eat, or read are strictly set by their parents or school teachers”, Mr Akogun advised the students to enjoy their freedom with moderation, saying that it is important to remember that true freedom comes with responsibility.
The Director reminded the students that their new found freedom is not a license for recklessness but an opportunity to contribute positively to societal development while respecting the rights of others.
The veteran journalist and consummate public relations professional particularly advised the students to make responsible use of the social media, which he described as “a tool to make life easier in this modern world.”
Also speaking, the Director of the Counselling Centre, Dr Bolu-Steve, offered guidance on managing academic pressure and making the most of the University’s counselling resources.
Mr Usman Saliu, the JUPEB Librarian, who represented the University Librarian, Dr Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, introduced the students to the library’s extensive resources and tools.
Highlights of the programme included the inauguration of the student representatives who would serve as a window between the JUPEB management and the students.
