
Elelu delivers 283rd Inaugural Lecture Thursday

Four students of the University of Ilorin, Mustapha Ruqoyat Kemi; Aina Precious; Abdullahi Abdulazeez; and Ilaboya Alaba, have made the University proud again by winning 4 Gold, 3 Silver, and Bronze medals, respectively in the just concluded World University Games trials, held at the University of Jos.
During the competition that was held between April 6 and April 11, 2025, Mustapha Ruqoyat Kemi, won Gold Medals in Discus Women and Shot Put Women; Aina Precious, won a gold medal in 100m Men and Bronze in 200m Men; Abdullahi Abdulazeez, won a gold medal in 110m Hurdles men; and Ilaboya Alaba, won silver medals in Javelin Men, Discuss Men and Shot Put Men.
A statement signed by the Director of Sports, University of Ilorin, Prof. T. O. Ibraheem, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin disclosed that the UNILORIN contingent comprised of five athletes (3 male and 2 female), two coaches, and a sports administrator. Four athletes participated in athletics; two in the track events (100 meters and 110 meters Hurdles). The other two featured in field events, Short put, Discuss, and Javelin”, while the only athlete that featured in Badminton lady single, will be joining others in the final selection for the World University Games later in the year.
Prof. Ibraheem appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the University Management for giving them the opportunity to participate in the trials. He added that the event will afford the University’s athletes the opportunity to participate in the World University games in Germany later in the year.
Pointing out that the competition is one of the toughest that UNILORIN ever attended, the Sports Director said, “We have dominated since 2023, and retaining this in 2025 is a deal courtesy of our casual coach, Paul Okporuanefe. We promise to make the University of Ilorin proud at the world level coming up in Germany later this year”.
