3 UNILORIN dons bag CSN fellowship award

Three distinguished scholars of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Hussein Kehinde Okoro of the Department of Industrial Chemistry; as well as Prof. Haleemah I. Adegoke and Dr Ola Rajee both of the Department of Chemistry, have been conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN).
The award ceremony was held at the just concluded 48th Annual International Conference Workshop, Exhibition & General Business Meeting of the society held penultimate Thursday (September 18, 2025) at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
In a letter of recognition to the awardees, signed by the Secretary, Award Committee of the National Council of Chemical Society, Dr Asabe M. Magomya, made available to UNILORIN Bulletin, the Society stated that the honour was bestowed on the three scholars as a result of their significant contributions to the field of Chemistry in Nigeria.
According to the letter, the fellowship award also recognises the recipients as distinguished and outstanding members of the Society.
In his remarks, the Chief Host of the event, who is also the President of the Society, Prof. Rufus Sha’Ato, said that the awards are not for the asking but they are usually a product of careful and thoughtful screening and consideration of applicants or nominees with the Central criterion that awardees be persons worthy in character as members or benefactors to CSN, the Chemistry profession and humanity generally.
“Your new status comes with tremendous responsibility and obligations to CSN, I pray and believe you all will live up to this demand to justify the confidence the Society has reposed in you. I heartly congratulate all the new Fellows on behalf of myself and the entire National Council: Committee of Fellows and Members of CSN”, he stressed.
Speaking of behalf of the awardees, Prof. Okoro, said that the recognition is not only a personal milestone but a reflection of the encouragement and goodwill received from colleagues, friends, family, well wishers and UNILORIN management.
Prof Okoro further stated that the CSN Fellowship is a highly prestigious honour reserved for those who made outstanding contributions to the advancement of chemical sciences in Nigeria and beyond.
“This award is a well-deserved recognition of the awardees’ decades of impactful research, teaching and services”, he added.
