Mr Akogun gave this admonition last Thursday (June 26, 2025) while speaking at a send-off ceremony organised by the Directorate of Corporate Affairs for three of its retired staffers at the Auditorium Basement.

The retired staff members are: a former Head of the Yoruba Unit of UNILORIN FM, Mr George Adebisi Adenle; an Assistant Director, (Information), Mr Olusegun Mokuolu; and a senior I. T. officer, Mr Sunday Fadesire.

The Director, who said that the event was for the retirees as it was also for those who are still in service, urged those who still have some years ahead in service to always discharge their duties with absolute diligence and profound commitment to the greatness of the University.

He reminded those who are still in service that whoever worked as expected by the authorities of the University would certainly receive divine blessings in their personal lives and even in their incomes.

Mr Akogun recalled the contributions of the trio to the progress and development of the Directorate through diligent execution of their duties and passionate commitment to the goals of the University, saying that neither he nor the Directorate ever regretted working  with any of them.

Speaking on Mr Adenle, the veteran journalist described him as a very resourceful man who quickly adjusted to broadcasting as soon as he was redeployed to the Directorate from the University School.

Mr Akogun said that Mr Adenle gave a good account of himself not just as a newscaster but also as a presenter of several other programmes that also presented him as a role-model to others.

The Director described Mr Fadesire as a tireless officer who was always ready to discharge any responsibility assigned to him even on weekends and public holidays without any form of complaint or displeasure.

Mr Akogun said that the Bulletin Unit of the Directorate has started missing the services of Mr Fadesire because he was very hardworking and humble.

On Mr Mokuolu, the Director said he is a fantastic professional who carved a niche for himself in news reporting.

He recalled that apart from covering the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Mr Mokuolu also handled so many responsibilities, including creating and managing the University’s Social Media handles while he was in the services of the University.

The Director also described Mr Mokuolu as a true man of God for returning some money to the purse of the University, in lieu of retirement notice, after resigning from its services to the applause of the management of the institution.

While congratulating the trio on their peaceful retirement, the Director urged others to learn from the careers of the three retirees for them to also be worthy of celebration after retirement.

Others who paid glowing tribute to the retirees included the Station Manager, UNILORIN 89.3 FM, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma); the Deputy Director (Information) and Studio Manager, UNILORIN 89.3 FM, Mr Tunde Agboola, and a Deputy Director (Information), Mr Festus Ogunyinka.

In their separate responses, the honourees appreciated the Director and members of the Directorate for celebrating them. They prayed that the Directorate should continue to grow in leaps and bounds.

Highlights of the event included a special lecture on ‘‘Transition From Work Life to  Retirement’’ by Mr Moses Opaleke, a Deputy Registrar in the University, and presentation of gifts to the retirees.

The event, was graced by spouses, children, friends, and relations of the honourees, and staff members of the Directorate.
