New academic session: UNILORIN campus bubbles again

The campus of the nation’s most sought-after University, the University of Ilorin, has started bubbling again following the resumption of both the returning and new students for the 2022/2023 academic session.

A visit by UNILORIN BULLETIN to various segments of the University last Thursday (December 14, 2023) showed staff and students of various Departments of the University engaging in one activity or the other towards ensuring that the academic calendar of the University is run without any impediment.

At the Faculty of Law, while some students were seen working on their registration formalities,  others were seen receiving lectures.

In a chat with UNILORIN BULLETIN, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Nimah Modupe AbdulRaheem, said that all the staff of the Faculty were ready to offer their services without delay.

She explained that she had also gone round the Faculty and found that everything was going on smoothly as planned .

The renowned academic equally noted that no challenge whatsoever either from staff or students has been brought to the  attention of the Management of the Faculty.

Prof. AbdulRaheem also said that lectures have not only started but that other programmes of the Faculty are being implemented as arranged, saying that the Faculty would always lead in the efforts to ensure that the University of Ilorin remains enviable at national and global levels.

At the Faculty of Education, students of various Departments were also seen going about one activity or the other with enthusiasm.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Lasiele Alabi Yahaya, who also spoke to UNILORIN BULLETIN, said that every arrangement has been made to ensure that both the new and returning students of the Faculty were able to conduct their registration formalities with ease.

Prof. Yahaya, who is also a former Director, Institute of Education, University of Ilorin, encouraged students of the Faculty and other Faculties who may need one form of assistance or the other not to hesitate to contact any staff of the concerned Faculty who are always ready to offer maximum assistance.

At the University Main Library, some students were also seen accessing  various materials available at the Faculty.

One of the new students, Abubakar Ajao, who was admitted into the Department of Computer Science, said that he was impressed with the volume of books he saw at the Library and the fraternity of its staff.

He added that it was curiosity that encouraged him to visit the library as he said that he just wanted to see what it contains compared with that of his former school.

The University Librarian, Dr Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, welcomed both the new and returning students to the campus as he said that the Library was built and stocked for them to learn and improve their academic wherewithal.

Dr Omopupa assured the students and other members of the University community that the staff of the Library would always be available to offer whatever assistance they would require for them to make proper use of the facility.

A transporter, who plied the UNILORIN campus- Post Office route, Mr Kazeem Alagbede, said that he and his men have been recording improved patronage, particularly from students, since the resumption of academic activities.

Mr Alagbede added that the transporters are now more engaged than it is used to before the resumption of students. He assured that they would continue to ensure smooth transportation of staff and students of the University of Ilorin to and from the campus.
