RESEARCH IN UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN

UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN RESEARCH MANDATE
The University of Ilorin Decree 1979(section 1 (3) ©) and the University of Ilorin Act of 2004 (Section 1 (3) ©) identified one of the objectives of the University in relation to research as “to encourage and promote scholarship and conduct research in all fields of learning and human endeavor.”

MISSION

To reposition and drive meaningful high quality research in all sectors of the University

VISION

To provide all necessary resources for high quality research in the humanities and sciences relevant to the needs of our community and industries in Nigeria in particular and humanity in general.

DEFINITION OF RESEARCH
Within the context of University of Ilorin mandate, ‘Research’ is defined as a methodical investigation into a subject in order to discover facts, to establish or revise a theory, or to develop a plan of action based on the facts discovered.

The University of Ilorin strategic plan (1st October, 2008 -30th July, 2013) has the following strategies for achieving the research mandate of the university:

•    Facilitate the conduct of relevant and incisive development oriented trans-disciplinary research,
with national and global applications;
•    Create a conducive atmosphere for attracting external funds for research and project
implementation;
•    Protect and promote research interests;
•    Encourage staff to publish in highly-rated home-based, national and international journals;
•    Ensure that home-based outlets for publications are highly rated and become international;
•    Provide oversight to ensure quality, accountability and ethical standards in research;
•    Develop appropriate copyrights and trademarks for the University through patenting and branding of research products.

RESEARCH MANAGER
To achieve the objectives of the Unilorin Research Mandate, a research manager (a Professor) will facilitate the research activities of the faculties under the direct supervision of the Dean.  The research Manager will represent the Faculty on the Board of Centre for Research, Development and in-House Training (CREDIT).

The duties of the Research Managers shall be but not limited to the following:
•    Assess project proposals;
•    Ensure adherence to the University research policy;
•    Assist researchers in the preparation of research proposals and follow-up activities.
•    Manage research funds
•    Prepare reports to funders including the University through CREDIT

For administrative convenience, the faculties have been grouped into three (3), each under the purview of a Research Manager.

RESEARCH MANAGER GROUPING

Research Managers are assigned to each group of faculties as follows;

Group 1    HUMANITIES:
Faculties of   Arts, Business and Social Sciences, Education, and Law.

Group2    SCIENCES:
Faculties of Agriculture, Science, Communication and Information Sciences, Engineering and Technology.

Group 3    MEDICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES:
Faculties of Basic Medical sciences, Clinical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.
