OVERVIEW

Following Senate approval of the 24th August 2012, the Centre for Translation Art (CTA) was established in the University of Ilorin. Located in the Faculty of Arts, the Centre was created “to bridge linguistic gaps, break intercontinental language barriers thereby unifying people; link people together by shedding light on their thoughts through Translation and Interpretation activities”. One of the starting points towards realizing these objectives was to offer an M.A. programme in Translation, named MTA.

The activities of ITA are divided into three major categories viz:

  • Advocacy: The Institute brings all and sundry to appreciate its key role and importance vis à vis the disquieting world of linguistic disparities and cultural sensitivities. With several advocacy themes and topics, ITA enlightens the public through focused information dissemination as well as seminars and workshops;

Prof. Tunde Ajiboye had his first degree from University of Ibadan where he was awarded First Class (Honours) in French in 1974. He obtained his Doctorate in LinguistIque Appliquée from Université de  Nancy II, Nancy, France, in 1978. He has to his credit close to a hundred publications as books and journal articles. These publications include Catastrophe au rendez-vous, a French translation of Okediji’s Rẹrẹ run, a Yoruba dramatic piece.
