The Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman, was appointed the Chancellor of the University of Ilorin on May, 2015. He takes over from the Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty, Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I, who had held the position since March 20, 2006.
The First Class Katsina royal father, who was born in 1951, is the fifth Chancellor of the University of Ilorin since its inception about 40 years ago.
The four previous Chancellors of the University were: the Emir of Bedde, HRH Umar Sulaiman, (1978-1981); the AkuUka of Wukari, HRH K.S.A. MasaIbi II, (1981-2000); the Amayanabo of Nembe, Justice Ambrose Allagoa, (2000-2006) and the Dein of Agbor Kingdom, HRH Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I (2006-2015).
Alhaji Usman was previously the Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He was turbaned the 50th Emir of Katsina on July 5, 2008, succeeding his father, the late Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Usman, the 49th Emir of Katsina, who died on March 8, 2008.

Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN assumed office as the 11th Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin on October 16, 2022. The new Vice Chancellor was born over six decades ago in Osun State where he had his primary, secondary and tertiary (LL. B and LLM degrees) education. Precisely, he was born on the 26th December, 1961 in Ile-Ife, Osun State. After his primary education, Prof. Egbewole proceeded to the Ife Anglican Grammar School, Ile-Ife, for his West African School Certificate (WASC) between 1973 and 1978. He, thereafter,trained at the famous Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife, where he earned his Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 1981. On successful completion of his HSC with flying colours, young Egbewole was admitted to the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, in 1981 to study Law. He earned his Bachelor’s degree (LL.B) in 1984 and immediately proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1985.
In 1988, Prof Egbewole went back to the renamed Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife for his Master’s degree in Law (LL.M), which he earned in 1989. He capped his brilliant academic credentials with a doctorate degree in Law from the University of Ilorin in 2009. From 1985 to 1995, Prof Egbewole accumulated legal practice experience from government and private firms, and in 1995, he started his own law firm, Wahab Egbewole & Co. As an active legal practitioner, Prof Egbewole has continued to practice law and has contributed immensely to the development of Nigerian jurisprudence in several areas, particularly inelectoral jurisprudence, constitutionalism, human rights, criminal practices, and general civil practices, among others. In recognition of his shrewdness and political sagacity, he was elected by his law colleagues as the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch. He had also served as a member of the National Executive Committee for the Nigerian Bar Association. He reached the pinnacle of the legal profession in 2018 when, having distinguished himself, he was appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee.
Driven by the urge to contribute to legal education, the erudite Professor joined the services of the University of Ilorin in 1997 as a Lecturer II. Not long after joining the University, his vibrant industriousness and scholarship soon came to the fore, and he has used these attributes to benefit legal education and research. The career progression of Prof Egbewole has been rapid and smooth which has been attributed to his brilliance, diligence and hard work. He was promoted to the rank of Lecturer I in 1999 and served as Senior Lecturer between 2003 and 2012. He eventually attained the peak of his academic career on October 1, 2012, when he was elevated to the rank of Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law, University of Ilorin. Prof Egbewole’s administrative savvy has also seen him serve the Law Faculty in numerous capacities including Acting Head of Department, Sub-Dean, Acting Dean of Law, among others. “Mr Efficiency” as he is fondly called, has also served the university in different roles, notable among which is his role as the Director, General Studies Division. As a mark of appreciation for his administrative acumen by his colleagues, the Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law was elected to represent the University Senate on the University Governing Council in 2015. He was re elected into the Council in 2019, a position he held until his emergence as the Chief Executive of the institution in September 2022. As a member of the University’s Governing Council, Prof. Egbewole served as the Chairman of the Council’s Committee on Contract Management and Operations, and Chairman, Committee on the Review of Membership of Council Committees, among several others. In recognition of his erudite scholarship, contribution to research and university administration, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole was appointed as the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the University in October 2022.Apart from teaching and administration, Prof. Egbewole has supervised innumerable undergraduate Long-Essays. He has also supervised at least 12 Master’s degree theses and six doctoral dissertations. Some of those who completed their researches under his watchful eyes are today Professors, senior lawyers and top industry players of immense values. In addition to the above, thiscerebral legal luminary is equally a well published scholar.
Prof Egbewole SAN is a prolific and consistent researcher as demonstrated by his very robust publication profile. In specifics, aside from a book publication, the Professor has intellectually stimulating and professionally exciting journal articles (40+), book chapters (30+), edited books (10+), and many completed commissioned projects to his name, all published in reputable local, national and international journal outlets and by respected national and international publishers. He also has one monograph, and five technical reports to his credit. Prof Egbewole delivered the 139th inaugural lecture of the University of Ilorin, entitled “Judex: Hope for the Hopeful and the Hopeless” on Thursday,November 28, 2013. The Professor has continued to keep himself abreast of developments in his fields of research by continuously attending several training programs. He has also continually disseminated and imbibed knowledge by attending local and international conferences where he shares the outcomes of his research works. Over the years, Prof Egbewole has shown himself to be a very resourceful academic by facilitating several national and international research grants to the University, worth millions in Nigerian currency. These include Travel Grant to participate in the 2022 Global Meeting on Law & Society in Lisbon, Portugal; Yiaga Africa and European Union Grant for the development of E-Clinic Election Curriculum; the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) Grant for the disability project of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Faculty of Law; and the Law and Society Research Grant for Annual Conference held in Washington DC, 2019, among no fewer than 20 others. These research grants were deployed to further research of practical benefits to the society.
Like a goldfish that has no hiding place, Prof Egbewole has so distinguished himself that his academic and legal skills have been sought after by local and international establishments as evidenced by his membership on notable education boards like the Board of Studies of the Council of Legal Education; his participation on many law review committees; and as a reviewer for local, national and international law journals. In addition, the learned Professor has acted as an external examiner for Ph.D theses and assessor for the appointment of Readers and Professors both in Nigerian and overseas universities. Among these institutions are the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, IleIfe; the University of Abuja, the University of Lagos, Enugu State University,Osun State University, Osogbo; Fountain University, Osogbo; the River State University of Science and Technology, Port-Harcourt; Umaru Yar’ Adua University, Katsina; and the Lagos State University, Ojoo. Prof. Egbewole is also not a national champion. He was deservedly engaged as an External Examiner by the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He also served, meritoriously, as an academic auditor to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. This distinguished legal luminary is a member of many respected professional organisations, both nationally and internationally, including but not limited to the Nigerian Bar Association, the American Society of International Law, the African Bar Association, the International Bar Association, African Consortium on Law and Religion Studies, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). Other professional bodies to which he belongs are the Nigerian Society for International Law (NSIL), the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA) and the Law and Society Association. Aside from being conferred with the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) in 2018, he is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) and the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP). Prof Egbewole also held leadership positions in some of these professional bodies, such as Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the Ilorin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); Member, National Executive Committee of the NBA; Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin Branch; Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice; National President, Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA); and National Secretary, Islamic WelfareFoundation (IWF).
In the realm of community development services, Prof. Egbewole has been a legend. He had served variously as a Member, Secretary and Chairman of one Committee or the other. These include the Committee for the Review of Laws of Oyo State; the Osun State Law Revision Committee and the Panel of Inquiry,Ekiti Local Government of Kwara State. He was also a Member, Board of Studies, Council of Legal Education and the Governing Council, Office of the Public Defender of Kwara State. He also served as a Resource Person to the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral and Political Parties Matters in November, 2016. He was also an Editorial Consultant to Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin Journal of Public and International Law as well as Consultant to the Nigeria Institute for Legislative Studies; Editorial Board Member, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Journal; Member, Roving Group of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB); Resource Person to the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral and Political Parties Matters; Chairman, Research Thematic Group, International Coordination Research Group (ICRG), International University Network on Cultural and Biological Diversity (IUNCBD); Newsletter Editor and later Chairman, Negligence and Damages Committee, International Bar Association (IBA); Co-Chairperson, International Society of Public Law (ICON.S), Nigeria Chapter; and Coordinator, Collaborative Research Network (CRN) 47, Law and Society Association. He has been serving as the Legal Adviser to the same body since 1999. He was a member of the NTA Ife Station Project, member of Ife Forestry and Development Board and Ife Development Board. He has also been the Chairman, Peace and Security Committee of the Ife Development Board. He is also the founder of Egbewole-Banjo Foundation which is a platform for providing services that will accelerate socio-economic development of individuals and groups with the hope that the reward that will accrue to these services from Allah will be credited to these two great men through education, empowerment and mentorship. A deeply religious man, Prof. Egbewole is a Member of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) and an active member of the Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF). Prof. Egbewole, a very humble, pious and friendly scholar, is happily married to Hajia Muibat Adeola Egbewole and the marriage is blessed with children.

Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, a distinguished agricultural economist, erudite academic and astute administrator, is the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Ilorin.
The don, who is an indigene of Iyamoye in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was born on May 28, 1959.
He attended Capital School, Kaduna, from 1964 to 1968 and also trained at St. Mark’s Anglican Primary School, Offa, between 1968 and 1970.
Prof. Omotesho proceeded to AbdulAzeez Atta Memorial College, Okene, Kogi State where he was educated from 1970 to 1974. He also attended the then Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara State Polytechnic), Ilorin, between 1974 and 1976 for his Advanced Level qualifications.
In 1976, this outstanding academic secured admission into the University of Ibadan for his Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, which he earned in 1979. He, thereafter, proceeded for his Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics at the same University and bagged the qualification in 1981. He capped his scintillating academic laurels with a doctorate degree in Agricultural Economics from the same University of Ibadan, as a University scholar, in 1991.
Prof. Omotesho, who was a Federal Government scholar during his undergraduate days at the University of Ibadan, began his career as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Ibadan in 1981.
In 1984, Prof. Omotesho joined the services of the University of Ilorin. He has since taught different courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University leading to the production of several other agriculturists. He became a Lecturer II in 1988. He was promoted to the rank of Lecturer I in 1991.
Prof. Omotesho’s steady contributions to the attainment of the University’s corporate objectives earned him elevation to the status of Senior Lecturer in 1993. He was promoted to the status of Associate Professor in 1996. He eventually attained the pinnacle of his academic career in 2000 when he was appointed Professor of Agricultural Economics.
Since 1984 when he joined the services of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Omotesho has held so many academic and administrative positions in addition to his core duties of teaching, research and community services. He was the Departmental Examinations Coordinator at the Department of Agricultural Economics from 1985 to 1991.He also served as Departmental Seminar Coordinator between 1987 and 1994.
Prof. Omotesho served as a Member of the Ceremonials Committee from 1992 to 1997. He was also a Member of the University Committee on Timetable and Room Usages between 1997 and 1999 and a Member of the University Committee on Examinations, Scholarships and Prizes from 1997 to 1999.
This award-winning academic served as the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics from 1999 to 2008.He was also the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin between 2008 and 2012.
Prof. Omotesho was also a Member of the institution’s Governing Council from 2009 to 2013.He has been a Member of the Senate of the University of Ilorin since 2000.He was the Dean, Student Affairs of the University between 2012 and 2016.
In 2019, he was appointed Director of Academic Planning. He held the position for three years before returning to the Department of Agricultural Economics to continue his core responsibilities of teaching before his selection as one of the deputies to the 11th Chief Executive of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on Monday, December 19, 2022.
Prof. Omotesho, who delivered the University of Ilorin’s 158th inaugural lecture entitled “Let The Small-Scale Farmer Be in Good Standing” in 2015, has authored so many intellectually stimulating publications. He has no fewer than 145 publications single-handedly or jointly authored in reputable local, national and international levels to his credit.
Aside teaching, research and community services, Prof. Omotesho has supervised innumerable undergraduate long essays, 46 Master’s theses and 21 doctorate dissertations in the last four decades of quality services at the University of Ilorin.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor has served on several accreditation teams constituted by the National Universities Commission to various universities and those put together by the National Board for Technical Education to several Polytechnics and Monotechnics. He is also a member of several professional bodies within and outside Nigeria. He is a Member of the International Farm Management Association, the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists, the Agricultural Society of Nigeria, the Nigerian Rural Sociological Association, the Statistical Society of Nigeria and Farm Management Association of Nigeria. He is equally a Member of the Agricultural Economics Society, United Kingdom, and Member, Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Association of Evaluators.
Prof. Omotesho, who is a Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Evaluators, is happily married and blessed with children.

A consummate administrator and veteran trade unionist, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla was appointed Registrar of the University of Ilorin by the institution’s Governing Council on March 23, 2023. He formally assumed office as the 7th Registrar of the University on April 28, 2023.
An indigene of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mr Alfanla was born on August 28, 1970 in the city of Ilorin. He attended the famous Ansarul Islam Primary School, Ilorin, where he received his primary education certificate. He was also educated at the great Government Secondary School, Ilorin and Omupo Grammar School, Omupo, from where he earned his West African School Certificate in 1988.
In 1990, the Registrar proceeded to the Bayero University, Kano, for his Bachelor of Arts (Combined Honours) degree in English/Mass Communication, which he earned in 1995. Mr Alfanla also attended the University of Ilorin between 2006 and 2010 for his Bachelor’s degree in Common Law. He followed his LL.B. up with his attendance of the Nigerian Law School, Abuja at the end of which he was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2012. He, again, in 2015, enrolled for his Master’s degree in law and completed the programme in 2016.
After offering his mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC) programme at Girls Commercial School, Nanka, Anambra State, from 1995 to 1996, the Registrar joined the services of the University of Ilorin as an Administrative Assistant during the tenure of the 6th Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR, in 1998. He was promoted to the rank of Administrative Officer in 2001 and became an Assistant Registrar in 2005.
Following his consistent hard work and loyalty to the University, Mr Alfanla was deservedly elevated to the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar in 2009. He became a Principal Assistant Registrar in 2013. This outstanding university administrator was eventually promoted to the rank of Deputy Registrar in 2016.
In the last 25 years of his services to the nation’s most sought-after University, Mr Alfanla has served in various capacities and on several committees either as the Chairman or Secretary. Among the several responsibilities he was saddled with was the University’s Admission Officer, which he competently offered under two different administrations headed by Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, OFR, CON and Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, OON; between 2012 and 2016. He also served as the Deputy Registrar, Academic Support Services.
A thoroughbred trade unionist, the Registrar initially served as the Branch Secretary and later as the Branch Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Ilorin from 2004 to 2007 and between 2007 and 2015, respectively. He was also the National Treasurer of the Association between 2015 and 2020.
Mr Alfanla, who has attended many conferences, seminars and symposiums, is also a member of many professional bodies including the Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators (ANUPA), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), among others. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administrators of Nigeria (ICAN).
Despite his tight schedules, Mr Alfanla found time to serve as the Secretary, Ilorin Emirate Staff Association, University of Ilorin. He was also at a time the Secretary, University of Ilorin Muslim Community as he was the Imam, Senior Staff Quarters’ Mosque, Main Campus, Ilorin, between 2009 and 2021.
Until his new appointment, Mr Alfanla was the Deputy Registrar/Secretary of the institution’s Postgraduate School and he has been a member of the University’s Governing Council, representing the University Congregation.
Mr Alfanla is happily married and blessed with children.

Dr. Omopupa Kamal Tunde was born over 50 years ago at Omopupa compound, Alanamu quarters in Ilorin. He attended Government High School, Ilorin for his Secondary education; and studied both in Nigeria and abroad for his tertiary education including at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Bayero University, Kano, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, University of Ibadan; and the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information Science (BUK), Masters in Industrial and Labour Studies (Unilorin), a Master in Library Studies (UI); and a PhD in Library and Information Science (Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa). Dr. Omopupa, a Reader in Library and Information Science, has published widely in that field in referred journals within Nigeria and across the world; and is a member of distinguished academic and professional Associations including the Academic Staff Union (ASUU), National Association for Promotion of Studies in Religions, Education and Language, Nigerian Library Association (NLA); and a fellow of Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals(CILIP).
Dr Kamal Omopupa was a former Ag. Head of department, Library and Information Science at the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (2008), a former Ag. Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Ilorin (2018-2020), a member of the Unilorin Senate representing the Faculty of Communication and Information Science (2021-until appointed University Librarian); and a member of other statutory University / Faculty based committees. He is also a member of the Ilorin Central Mosque Library Board amongst several others within and outside the University of Ilorin.
