The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, has organised a sporting activity, themed “Walk for Life” initiative, which was held on the campus penultimate Saturday (July 26, 2025).
The walk, which started from the Main Gate to the Dam Site, served as both a fitness programme and a celebration of leadership excellence. It also doubled as a platform to honour the past while welcoming the future, reinforcing the University’s commitment to holistic development.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, lauded the Faculty for the initiative, saying that it will promote healthy living among staff and members of the academic community.
Prof. Egbewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, remarked that such exercises not only enhance physical health but also promote mental alertness, relaxation, and collaboration across different arms of the University.
The Vice Chancellor also congratulated staff members who received special recognitions at the event and commended the impactful leadership of the immediate past Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Walking Committee, Prof. Mutiat A.Balogun, highlighted the importance of routine physical activity as a vital preventive health measure and encouraged all staff to make walking and other forms of exercise part of their daily lifestyle for better health and enhanced productivity.
In her remarks, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole, described the initiative as both a celebration and a symbolic “handing over activity” , marking the end of her tenure.
The former Dean specifically acknowledged the unwavering support she received from Heads of Departments, Sub-Deans, and committee chairpersons, who were specially honoured at the event for their loyalty and commitment to the growth of the Faculty during the course of her administration.
Delivering his goodwill message, the new Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Israel Ogunlade, thanked all the participants for attending the event as he paid glowing tributes to his predecessor.
He commended her leadership, innovation, and dedication to the advancement of the Faculty, promising to build on the solid foundation she laid. “I pray for greater heights for her in all her future endeavours and trust that, together, we will continue to uplift the Faculty,” he said.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Registrar, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa; the Bursar, Mr Lawal Abiodun; the Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Azeezat Ahmed; the Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Dr Mubarak Akintola; Heads of Departments, and staff members of the Faculty and several other members of the University community.
