About the Dean of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Dr Amali Mohammed Otuofu obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (B.Pharm) from the University of Jos in 2003. He then proceeded to conduct his mandatory Pharmacy internship and national service at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospitals, Ilorin and State House Clinic Abuja FCT respectively. He has been in the employ of the University of Ilorin since 2006, where he assumed as a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, College of Health Sciences. He transferred his services to the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences from 2011 where he is currently a Senior Lecturer. Within this period he obtained a Masters (M.Sc) degree in Pharmacology from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in 2010 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Pharmacology from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool United Kingdom in 2015. Dr Amali is involved in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, not only in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences but also the Department of Optometry and Vision Science. He has previously served as the Sub-dean of the Faculty, and Coordinator of the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology. He was appointed the Ag. Dean on 27th August 2020.

His research interests are in the field of Pharmacology and include;

− Toxicity assessment of medicinal products from natural and synthetic sources and

− Characterization of the immune mechanism(s) behind the elicitation of adverse reactions

He has extensive research experience including having facilitated a workshop on herbal training and participating in an European Union workshop on safety and efficacy of regenerative medicine therapies held at the University of Liverpool. This is in addition to numerous other conferences and workshops he has attended. He has published in reputable peer reviewed local and international journals. Dr Amali Mohammed Otuofu is a member of the West African Society for Pharmacology (WASP), British Society of Immunology (BSI), European Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), Nigeria Association of Pharmacists in Academia (NAPA) and Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN).
