Professor Abdur-Rahman graduated in 1995 with the MB.BS degree from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. After completion of the rotational internship and National Youth Service Corps in 1997, he did his Postgraduate Residency Training in Paediatric Surgery in record time, between April 1998 and October 2004 with the award of the Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons (FWACS).  He had post Fellowship training in Minimal Access Surgery at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Kochi, India and also acquired experience at the King’ College Hospital, London, UK in 2009, McMaster Children Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 2010.  He has attended many training programs, workshops and seminars on Medical education, Neonatal surgery, Safe community, Pain and Palliative care, Disaster management, Biomedical Ethics and Research. He was American College of Surgeons Scholar for the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program in 2012. He is a Global Health Simulation Fellow of the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning, McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 2016.

He joined the University of Ilorin in December 2005 as Lecturer I and has risen to the position of Professor of Paediatric Surgery in 2018. He is an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin, Nigeria since 2005.
He has held some professional and administrative positions both within and outside the University of Ilorin. He is the Pioneer Director of the Centre for Injury Research and Safety Promotion (CIRASP) of the University of Ilorin Teaching hospital (2007-2011) and the National Coordinator for the free donation of prostheses to amputees on behalf of the Limbless People Association International Nigeria. He was the Pioneer Chief Medical Director of Crescent Gold Crown Hospital Limited (2007-2015). He was also Coordinator of the Medical Education and Resource Unit (MERU) of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin (2012-2014) and Pioneer Coordinator of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratory of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin (2014-2018). Chairman and Head of Department of Surgery, University of Ilorin and UITH from 2018 to date. Chairman, Theatre Users’ Committee, UITH, Ilorin. He is the Lead, Paediatric Laparoscopic and Minimal Access Surgery, UITH, Ilorin and Simulation Expertand Consultant to Institutions on set up of Clinical Skills Simulation Centres across the country.Coordinator, Basic Surgical Skills Course, Ilorin Centre for West Africa College of Surgeons from 2015 to date. Course Secretary, West African College of Surgeons Integrated Revision Course in Clinical Surgery for Part I and Part II candidates 2017 and 2018.

He has over 100 published scientific articles- in the field of Surgery with special interest in Paediatric surgery and trauma in reputable National and International journals. He has also contributed chapters to 5 books. He is a Reviewer for more than 15 journals (local, National and International) and Editorial Member of 5 journals. He is Site Principal Investigator for more than 10 studies among which are Global surg studies (Global Surg I, II, III, FALCON, TALON, KIWI, CHEETAH, CovidSurg and Covidsurg cancer, PENGUIN), Paedsurg Africa, PAPSA trauma study, NigeriaCRAN on craniofacial cleft, Tetfund sponsored Injury first responder training, National Epidemiology of Sudden Cardiac Arrest survey and Basic Principle and Practice of Surgery Textbook He has received several scholarships and awards. He loves reading, meditation and playing tennis (table and lawn)
