Profile of the Head of Department

Dr. Hezekiah Olufemi  Adeosun hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State.  His primary and secondary education took place at Anglican Primary School and Anglican Grammar School, Ifo, Ogun State respectively.

Dr. Adeosun bagged his Bachelor’s Degree in Yoruba from Ogun State University (Now Olabisi Onabanjo University) Ago-Iwoye in 1995.  He later proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he had M.A Communication and Language Arts in 2002.  He also got M.A Yoruba (2005) and Ph.D. Yoruba (2013) from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin.  In addition to his academic pursuit,  Dr. Adeosun possessed a certificate in Social Work,  from Social Development Institute, Iperu, Ogun State in 1989.

Dr. Adeosun joined the services of the University of Ilorin as a Graduate Assistant in 2001.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Yoruba studies in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, University of Ilorin, Ilorin.  Adeosun has been privileged to serve, and still serving in various administrative and academic positions in the University of Ilorin.  Such positions include Level Adviser, Examination Officer; Secretary, Faculty of Arts Examination Monitoring Committee; Treasurer,  Alore Ilorin Journal of the Humanities;  Faculty Representative at the Committee on Examinations, Scholarships and Prizes; Chairman, Faculty of Physical Sciences’ Certificate Screening Committee, etc.

His areas of research interest include Yoruba Cultural Studies, Communication Studies, Poetry and Socio-semiotics.  He has published research articles in Local, National and International journals and contributed chapters to books.
