Brief Profile of the Head of the Department of Agronomy

I am a crop scientist who graduated from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria in 1987 with a B.Sc. (Hons.) Forest Resources Management, second class honours upper division. I was the best graduating student for the year 1987 and thus won the Laurie prize. I obtained my M.Sc. Crop production and PhD. Agronomy from the University of Ilorin in 1997 and 2006, respectively. I have also attended post-doctoral training in the area of climate change adaptation for agriculture and natural resources management organized by the centre for development and innovation, Netherlands. I am presently a Reader in the Department of Agronomy, the University of Ilorin, where I teach both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the area of crop production, general Agronomy and horticulture. I also engage students on farm practical training in nursery technology. I have supervised several undergraduate final year projects, ten master’s research projects and four ongoing PhD research. My research focus is on organic horticultural crop production and sustainable agricultural development. Aside from academic activities, I have also participated in commissioned national research projects such as the National Agricultural Research Project (NARP’S), Middle belt zone and Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Kwara State Agricultural modernisation master plan among others. I have attended conferences both in Nigeria and abroad. I have published forty journal articles in reputable local, national and international outlets. I have held various positions of responsibilities including Examination officer, Postgraduate coordinator among others. Currently, I am the Head of the Department of Agronomy.
