HISTORY OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS & PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management in the University of Ilorin was born out of the passion of the University’s management to grow the Institution into an impact making level not only in Nigeria, but also in the whole continent of Africa This mindset of the University’s Management was supported by the vibrancy of the Department of Business Administration as at the time when the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management was created in 2014/2015. This was with the designation of the degree awarded as B.Sc. Industrial Relations & Personnel Management as presently, the Department has 100 to 400 level students under the leadership of the Head of Department.

PHILOSOPHY

The general philosophy of the Department is to develop our students and impacting them with practical and theoretical knowledge capable of making them not only to be self-confident, innovative, but also to be self-reliant in the future. The programme is established to produce graduates who are quite knowledgeable and competent to meet the demands of the world’s business, socio – economic and political activities. This is to provide the basic knowledge and skills needed for the manpower requirements for public, private and international organizations. The guiding principles of the programme are excellence, truth, integrity and high moral value.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the B. Sc. degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management are to:

1. Provide the knowledge and skills needed for understanding and analysis of problems related to the management and administration of industrial, commercial, public and other human organizations;

2. Equip students of Administration and Management with the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining and solving problems as well as training in decision making; and

3. Develop leadership and interpersonal relations skills in management; and Training students in the principles and techniques of organizational management so as to ensure effective management.
