ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate Admission (B.Sc. Microbiology)

a. UTME (4 – year degree programme)

The candidate must have credit  in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), NECO, GCE or its equivalent in five (5) subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English Language at not more than 2 sittings. The UTME subjects are English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics.

b.    Direct Entry (3-year degree programme)

The candidates must have a minimum of two passes in the relevant subjects (Biology and Chemistry) at Advanced Level in addition to SSCE/GCE  ‘O’ level credit passes or its equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English Language at not more than two (2) sittings.

Postgraduate admission

The Department of Microbiology teaches and trains students leading to award of Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) in various aspects of Microbiology. These aspects include Industrial Microbiology, Medical and Veterinary Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Microbial Physiology, Plant Pathology, Mycology and Microbial Biotechnology.

Entry requirements for M.Sc. Microbiology

  • A minimum of second class lower division at B.Sc. level in Microbiology from the University of Ilorin or any other recognized Universities. 
  • In addition to first degree requirement in (i) above, candidates must have NYSC discharge certificate or an exemption  letter for Nigerian applicants. The candidates must be available for a qualifying examination . The pass mark in this examination is a minimum of 55%.
  • Candidates must also have a minimum of credit in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English language in SSCE, GCE, NABTEB or NECO at not more than two sittings.

Entry requirements for M. Phil. Microbiology

  • Graduate of University of Ilorin or any other recognized Universities who achieved between 55 – 59.99% weighted point average at Masters Degree (in Microbiology) is qualify to apply.
  • Other entry requirements as highlighted in a i & iii (i.e. entry requirements for M.Sc. degree).

Entry requirements for Ph.D. Microbiology

  • Graduate of University of Ilorin or any other recognized Universities who has achieved a minimum of 60% weighted point average at Masters Degree (in Microbiology) may be admitted for Ph.D. program. .
  • Candidates must also have a minimum of credit in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English language in SSCE, GCE, NABTEB or NECO at not more than two sittings.
