Department of Adult & Primary Education

About Department of Adult & Primary Education

The Department of Adult and Primary Education was created in 2014. The then Department of Educational Foundations, which proposed and secured approval to offer B.Ed Primary Education Studies was established in 1980 as an offshoot of the Teacher Education Department created at the inception of the Faculty of Education in 1976. In 2009, when nine undergraduate and related postgraduate degree programmes in social sciences and humanities were brought together from the old Departments of Educational Foundations and Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology, B.Ed. Primary Education Studies was moved to the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education.  The programme again moved to the Department of Arts Education created from the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education in August 2013.

The Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education Studies started with the creation of the Department of Adult and Primary Education in 2014/2015 academic session.  In the beginning of 2014/2015 session, the Department of Adult and Primary Education was created to award Bachelor’s degrees in two programmes: Adult Education Studies (AES) and Primary Education Studies (PES).  Thus, the B.Ed. Primary Education Studies degree moved to this new Department as an existing programme and the B. Ed. Adult Education Studies started as a new programme during the 2014/2015 session.
