History of the Department 

The Department Telecommunication Science (TCS) was formally established by decision of the University of Ilorin Senate at its 193rd meeting held in 20th June, 2008 as part of the creation of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) to complete four other Departments in the Faculty namely; Computer Science, Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, and Information and Communication Science.

The main goal of the TCS programme is to produce well-grounded graduates, who can explicitly relate theory to practice with essential transferable skills such as communication, task/project management and team work, and who can take leading roles in the highly competitive Telecommunication profession and can develop innovative ICT solutions using scientific approaches and state-of-the-art tools and techniques.

Philosophy of the Department

The world has been experiencing tremendous advances in the field of telecommunications which became evident in Nigeria in the past few years. The Bachelor of Science (Telecommunication Science) is designed to produce a Telecommunication specialists who are well grounded in the theory and practice on network computing and security, Networking, Wireless Mobile Communication Telecommunication software’s and applications, Telecommunication planning, analysis and design and Telecommunication management. By preparing students to meet future requirements in business and technology, the programme is envisioned and committed toproduce specialists that would anticipate and manage the challenges of Telecommunication systems development and Telecommunication management in the global digital knowledge-driven society.
