About Department of Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy is housed in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences of the College of Health Sciences. It runs the Anatomy Programme at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, specifically B.Sc. Anatomy, Masters in Anatomy and Ph.D. Anatomy. The Department also services the medical programme as well as other allied health programmes, including Nursing Science, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Optometry and Vision Science and Biomedical Engineering. At the inception of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, Anatomy was not taught as a separate discipline because of the Faculty philosophy at the time. However, following a re-organization in 1979, Anatomy and other disciplines re-accorded autonomous status and Anatomy was taught as a separate discipline. The teaching consists of didactic lectures, tutorial and practical sessions.

Admission Requirements

The first degree is a four-year programme. To be admitted into 100 level through UTME, a candidate must score at least the cut-off point for the programme in a combination of English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and possess at least 5 O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Candidates seeking the Direct Entry into 200 level must have at least two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Biology, Chemistry and Physics in addition to the UTME requirements.
