Mr. Kunle Akogun

The Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Ganiyu Ibrahim-Akogun who is also the Chief Executive of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, is a consummate journalist of the print media genre. He is a former Group News Editor of the influential THISDAY Newspaper.

A graduate of Mass Communication from the prestigious University of Lagos and a Master’s degree holder from the same institution, Akogun cut his journalism teeth at The Punch Newspaper in the late ‘80s, when, immediately after his mandatory NYSC service, he was appointed a Sub-editor with the high-flying newspaper in 1985. He has traversed major newsrooms of some of Nigeria’s most reputable newspaper houses including the old Herald, The Champion, The Sunray, The Comet, The Diplomat newsmagazine, as well as POINT and Assembly News magazines.

He is a versatile and all-round journalist, having been well-grounded in all aspects of journalism including news writing, production, features writing, editorial writing as well as page planning. Mr. Akogun is reputed to be the longest serving News Editor of THISDAY Newspaper to date, managing the highly volatile News Desk for more than four unbroken years (2002 to early 2007). He was a member of THISDAY Editorial Board between July 2007 and November 2009. In December 2009, he was appointed the Abuja Bureau Chief of the newspaper, doubling as its National Assembly Editor.

 Mr. Akogun joined the services of the University of Ilorin in May 2012 as Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, a post he held until June 2018 when he was appointed Director, the first substantive holder if that position in the history of the Directorate.

Born in Oke-Ode town, Ifelodun Local Government area of Kwara State in 1963, Akogun attended Oke-Ode Grammar School and the then Kwara State College of Technology for his secondary and Advanced level trainings before proceeding to the University of Lagos for his first and second degrees. He is a member of several professional bodies, prominent among which are the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the International Press Institute (IPI), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Institute of Professional Corporate Administrators (IPCA) He is also a Fellow if the Fourth-Estate Professional Society (FPS).

He is married and blessed with children.
