ABOUT CENTRE FOR OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING

Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is simply referred to as UNILORIN CODL. The goal of establishing the Centre is to extend access to quality university education to the teeming population of qualified applicants. Online and face-to-face instructional modes are combined to expose students to an excellently enriching learning experience. Through CODL, candidates can access the University’s accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degrees as well as diploma and certificate programmes.
Foundations for CODL were laid in objectives clearly outlined in the University’s five-year (2003 – 2008) Strategic Plan leading to approval granted by the Senate in 2008. Preliminary activities started immediately and these had been followed with gradual, consistent and progressive movement towards realizing the stated objectives. Subsequent Strategic Plans for 2009 – 2013, 2014 – 2018 and 2019 – 2023 continued and expanded investment in ODL.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, available in the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Communication and Information Science to regular students, is the flagship undergraduate programme of the Centre. Along with the Post-Doctoral Diploma in Education for the professional preparation of tertiary education teachers which was CODL’s pilot project, other accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are expected to come on board. The Centre’s open resources are also available for self-development by whosoever desires to acquire the relevant skills.
