Introduction
The Department was established in 1976 at the inception of the University and is charged with the responsibility to maintain physical and infrastructural facilities. This responsibility encompasses planning, design, organization, and implementation of maintenance and rehabilitation scheme relating to Civil Engineering / Building Structures, Mechanical Installations / Equipment / Appliances and Transport Facilities, Electrical and Telecommunication Facilities and general upkeep of the University environment. Rehabilitation is carried out either by contract or direct labour while routine maintenance is done by direct labour. The department also prepares all necessary document on rehabilitation projects to be carried out by contracts, recommends contractors and supervises their Work. The Department is also involved in the operation of facilities for the supply of essential services (example water supply, power supply and telecommunication services).

Organisational Structure
The Department is currently structured into:

1. Office of the Director of Works;
2. Civil/Building Unit;
3. Electrical/Telecommunication Unit;
4. Mechanical Unit; and
5. Pack and Gardens

The Department is headed by the Director of Works who is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and who coordinates the activities of the Units. The Unit Head who have technical and administrative responsibilities for their Units are responsible to the Director of Works. The Functions of the Units (Sub-Units) are outline below:

Functions

1. Maintenance of roads, water supply and distribution mains.
2. Monitoring water supply to the campuses. Supervises the uses of the university water tankers, and cess-pool emptier.

Sub-Unit: Building

Functions

1. Maintain all University buildings
2. Supervises the activities of student hostel managers with respect to maintenance of the infrastructures.
3. Organization and execution of direct labour project
4. Maintain liaison with Kwara State Water Corporation on water supply
5. Maintenance & operation of the University Dam/Water Treatment Plant

Unit: Electrical/Telecommunication

Sub-Unit: Electrical

Functions

1. Maintenance of all electrical installs and equipment on the university campuses
2. Mains the electrical components of generators and water booster pumps
3. Maintenance liaison with PHCN on Electricity supply to the campuses

Sub-Unit: Telecommunication

Functions

1. Operation & Maintenance of PABX equipment on Unilorin Campuses and the associated Cable network
2. Maintenance direct phone and extensions lines to the Unilorin Campuses
3. Maintain and operate the University Public Address System.
4. Maintain a liaison with NITEL on matters patterning to Direct phone line and billing

Sub-Unit: Motor Transport

Functions

1. Maintenance of University Vehicles and Allocation of Pool Vehicles
2. Carried out the technical aspect of Fleet Insurance

Sub-Unit: Power House/Water Booster Station

Function: Operates/Maintain the University Generators & Water Booster pumps on the Campuses

Sub-Unit: Air-conditioning/Refrigeration

Functions:

1. Maintains Cold rooms, air-conditioners, laboratory gas installations and refrigeration facilities in the university
2. Organizes and executes direct labour schemes on the relating to Air-conditioning & refrigeration  facilities

Sub-Unit: Orchard/Nursery

Function: Establishment & maintenance of Orchards and raising of ornamental plants for landscaping purposes and for decoration of venues of important university ceremonies

Sub-Unit: Landscaping/Horticultural Services

1. Undertakes tree doctoring operations, grounds maintenance and trimming of edges.
2. Currently supervising the activities  of the contractor handling beautification
