The Faculty of Engineering & Technology

Brief History
Introduction
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology started in 1978 with a total of about 51 students, three academic staff, three administrative staff, a messenger/cleaner and a driver.  Initially there were three Departments (Civil Engineering, ElectCivil Engineeringrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering).  In 1982 the Department of Agricultural Engineering was established, though students were first admitted into the programme during the 1983/84 session.

Postgraduate programmes were introduced during the 1985/86 session.  Presently the Faculty has a student population of about 1700 undergraduates and 120 postgraduate students.  There are over 60 academic staff in the Faculty.  The staff strength has also grown both in quality and quantity.

Our Objectives

  1. To produce engineering graduates who are trained to use their knowledge of the natural science and mathematics, together with the judgment and practical skills of their profession, to develop ways of utilizing the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind.
  2. To contribute through research and consultancy services to national development in the field of engineering and technology.
  3. To expose students to natural experiences and familiarize them with the environments in which they will eventually work as competent professionals.

Looking Ahead
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology has produced many engineers who are contributing their little quota to the growth and development of the country.  We intend to continue to do what we have been doing in the past 30years with more vigour and enthusiasm.  Recently, the National University Commission approved the commencement of a degree programme in Chemical Engineering in the Faculty.

We plan to introduce more programmes such as Computer Engineering, Food Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering in the near future.  This will enable us to cater for the demand for engineering education and contribution to the fulfillment of the nation’s quest for technological development.

We ask you to join us as we march ahead to reach greater heights.
