The National association of Muslim Engineering and Technology Students (NAMETS) Brief Introduction The National association of Muslim Engineering and Technology Students (NAMETS), is an association comprising all Muslim engineering students as members. The National Association of Muslim Engineering and Technology Students (NAMETS) is a body which came up through the initiative of some final year students during the 1996/1997 academic session. The Association which started as National Association of Muslim Engineering Students at the University of Ilorin, later metamorphosed into a national body called “National Association of Muslim Engineering Students” (NAMES). The maiden national conference was held at the University of Ilorin between 29th June and 2nd July 2000 with three institutions in attendance. The second national conference was held at the University of Ibadan, between 23rd and 26th August 2001 with six institutions present. At a national meeting held between the 5th and 7th of August 2006, the engineering students from polytechnics were included, hence, the name was finally changed to “National association of Muslim Engineering and Technology Students” (NAMETS). Another national meeting was recently held at BAYERO UNIVERSITY, KANO (BUK) between 14th and 16th of March, 2008 with six institutions in attendance. Presently six institutions constitute the national body of NAMETS, efforts is still in progress to make other institution join the national body.
