Graduate commends VC’s team on efficiency

A

graduand of Master’s of Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Ilorin, Mr. Musa Salihu Ishola, has poured out his feelings of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Is-haq O. Oloyede, for what he described as a “compassionate look” at his condition and making him have his protracted MPA result at no extra cost.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, the elated graduand observed: “Kindly permit me to say that your word does not in anyway contradict your action: one of which is: ‘being important is good but being good is more important’.  You have demonstrated your words in action and your actions in words so that those who care to listen to you will learn a lot from your magnanimity and kindness.’

Mr. Ishola wondered how the Vice-Chancellor could have fished out results that have been stuck for more than a decade “within a very short period of your tenure” thereby giving hope to those like him who had become frustrated and almost despondent.

His words:

“That inspite of your very tight schedule you still have time to sit and consider peculiar situations and conditions of a person like me is better explained in the words of a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and the immediate past Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo – that the most important decision members of his Council took was your recommendation as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, that ‘Oloyede is a star, he is infact stellar.  He began by picking the race and accelerating the pace of development in the University early.  He is a workaholic and he is blessed with workaholic lieutenants.’ ”

Mr. Ishola ended his letter on a note of prayer beseeching Allah “to add to your strength, continue to guide and guard you and the entire members of your team (Amin)”.

It would be recalled (as reported in  Unilorin Bulletin of September 1, 2008 edition) that  the University suspended further admissions into the Faculty Professional Programmes, beginning from the 2008/2009 session in order to clear the backlog of students whose results were pending after several years.

Despite the vast financial accruals that running the programmes would yield to the University, the interest of the extant students, whose results were stuck, made the University to put further admissions on hold until past results were harvested and students graduated. The argument of the University was that it is not the money that matters but the lives and careers of the various students already on the programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor, with other stakeholders, then set to work and within a short time, hundreds of pending results were processed making the coast clear for the admission of students into the programmes.
