Security Unit

The security unit is an arm of the Vice-chancellor’s office that was established almost from the inception of this University for the security of the University community.

The security unit is charged with the duties of protection of life and properties as its basic objectives. In the process of this we engage in protecting of properties by guarding installations and general patrols of the areas within the community.

Enforcement of law and order is necessary to maintain peace in the community. This is carried out by the unit in the use of uniformed guards and information gathering by the intelligence section which also investigate reported cases. Challenges facing the unit are mainly to ensure peaceful conduct of activities on the campuses with the reduction of crime to the bearest minimum. The unit has a total strength of about 400 that man the two campuses of the University.

Each campus is headed by an Assistant Director of Security while there is presently no Deputy Director of Security in the unit.
