Department of Geology and Mineral Sciences News and Notice - Hosting of 5th NAPE-Mini Conference 2010:
The Executive committee of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has granted the Department of Geology and Mineral Sciences the hosting right of 5th NAPE Mini Conference 2010. The hosting right was secured with active support of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.O. Oloyede, who assured NAPE of support and provision of facilities for memorable Conference. An Alumni Donation of Geophysics Books and Journal. Ms Iyabo Sindiku, a 1985 graduate of the Department, now a Consultant Petroleum Explorationist donated a one hundred and fifty thousand (N150,000) Naira worth of classical geophysics books and journals in April 2009. AAPG Imperial Barrel Competition A team of five M.Sc. students are participating in the Imperial Barrel Competition under the auspices of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) based in Houston, USA. The Competition is a geophysical and geological data acquisition, analysis and interpretation of geological provinces. Our team is working on the Viking Graben Basis of Northwest Europe. The competition involve Geoscience institutions from the America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Oceanics Regions. Regional winners will compete further in Houston, USA for the overall winner at the finals slated for June 2009.
