Department of Plant BiologyBrief History
Department of Plant Biology, formerly Department of Botany was one of the three units that made up the then Department of Biological Sciences. It became a full fledged Department in 2004 when the Department was granted a full recognition by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Moreover, NUC granted a full accreditation to the Department to run B.Sc. (Plant Biology) programme. Admission Requirements
(a) B.Sc.(Hons) Plant Biology
UME: Five ‘O’ Level Credit Passes must include English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. UME Subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology
(b) Direct Entry: ‘A’ Level Passes must include Biology and Chemistry Inaugural Lecturers: i. Professor F.A. Oladele (2003): "The Only One We Have". 62nd Inaugural lecture, University of Ilorin. ii. Professor J.A. Morakinyo (2003): "Genes in Hide and Seek". 69th Inaugural Lecture, University of Ilorin. iii. Professor E.O. Etejere (2004): "The Seed Sower and the Germination dilemma". 73rd Inaugural Lecture, University of Ilorin.
