...hails body's visionary leadership

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has commended the institution's Alumni Association for following global best practices by initiating development projects that would benefit its members and the University at large.

Prof. Ambali gave the commendation last Tuesday (September 5, 2017) while turning the sod for the proposed Unilorin Alumni Centre.

When completed, the multi-purpose Centre, to be built on an expansive 172.372 by 175.856 meters land near the University Dam site, will have facilities for a 1000-seater Auditorium, the Alumni National Secretariat Office, Committee Rooms, a Shopping Mall, a Skills Acquisition Centre, a Business Centre, a Guest House, Restaurant, Recreational and Fitness Centre.

Commending the Alumni Association for the initiative, the Vice-Chancellor praised the leadership of the Association for the giant strides that have been recorded.

“You are writing your own book and the event of today is a fresh chapter in your history”, Prof. Ambali said.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his delight in the Association's visionary leadership, adding that they are providing services for the students and staff. He also commended the Association for purchasing a vehicle to ease its functions.

Earlier in her welcome address, the National President of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Dr. (Mrs.) R. O. Oduwaiye, said, “Apart from adding to the beauty of the campus, the Centre is expected to be a rallying point for tens of thousands of the alumni the University of Ilorin has produced over the past forty-two years of its existence.”

Dr. Oduwaiye explained that the project belongs to each alumnus of the institution as she called on all the alumni and management of the University to support the project.

The National President then applauded the Vice-Chancellor for his approval and allocation of a good space of land, which she observed has made the commencement of the construction of the Centre possible.

In his goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na'Allah, also a Unilorin alumnus, stated that he has great love for the University, adding that KWASU is always glad to identify and align with the better by far University.

Prof. Na'Allah, who was represented on the occasion by Prof. M. M. Jimba, assured the alumni that the University of Ilorin would always enjoy the support of the sister university.

The Director of Advancement Centre, University of Ilorin, Dr. Jeleel Ojiade, in his brief remarks, described alumni associations as the bedrock of any university, disclosing that Unilorin alumni from all over the world would be ready to key into the project.

In his vote of thanks, the National Secretary of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Dr. Mahfouz A. Adedimeji, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for “giving necessary support” to the project, assuring the management that the Association would not disappoint in making the project a reality.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied to the turning of the sod ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. (Mrs.) N. Y. S. Ijaiya; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. A. Y. Abdulkareem; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji, the University Librarian, Dr. Joseph Omoniyi, the Deputy Bursar, Mr. M. O Dere; and the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun.
