The Accounting and Finance Department was pioneered by Professor B.O. Ogundele. He started the Department as the Head of Department in 1981. The Curriculum of the degrees offered here are akin to those offered by the University of Lagos. The first set of students to be enrolled in the Department were in the 1981/82 and they graduated in 1984/85 session. However, the Department of Finance was separated from the old Department of Accounting and Finance by the Senate on 30th July, 2013 at its 233rd meeting.

The Department offers courses at Professional Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Levels (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) Finance Programme is meant to produce men and women who are well-trained in all facets of finance with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the area of the economy, particularly its role in providing information for effective and efficient management.

The programme at the undergraduate level aims to:

  1. Train students to be self-reliant in the field of finance.
  2. Produce student who are adequately prepared for Postgraduate work.
  3. Produce Financiers who can readily impact their knowledge to students at lower levels of education.
  4. Develop self-confidence in handling problems associated with financing function with minimal or no supervision.
  5. Train students to develop confidence in appreciating and solving problems in finance.
