The Department of Urban and Regional Planning was established in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in 2013/2014 session. The Department at the time of its establishment of became one of the five Departments in the Faculty. Others are Architecture, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geo-Informatics.

The Department started with 21 students at inception in 2013 and has over time increased to 76 students in 20115/ academic session.

The department went through the rituals of resource accreditation in September 2013, as a standard practice in Nigeria higher education for a newly introduced programme needs to be inspected and accredited by a team of inspectors from the National University Commission the Session. Since its inception, the Department has continued to strive to rank amongst leading departments in the Faculty, University of Ilorin and hosts of schools offering Urban and Regional Planning education in Nigeria. The department welcomes students from all parts if the Country and allied field. The Administration of the department as collective in approach. Every academic member of staff is given specific assignment during the session.

The department welcome collaboration from industry, government and academia on academic research, project, training and workshops in the fields of Urban and Regional Planning development.


The sustainable Built Environment Research Group (SBERG) in the Department constituter a knowledge provoking research group through which solutions can be sought to sustainably eradicate or at least manage many of the 21st Century environmental issues.

The group comprises of highly experienced and seasoned academia with sole aim of impacting positively on the University Community in particular and the larger society in general. The focus is in the area of physical development environmental issues and economic and social planning.
