Only few Nigerian Universities offer Surveying and Geoinformatics. At best, the course is available at the Diploma level. Conversely, the Land Surveying and Geoinformatics expertise and services are in high demand in Nigeria economy and in the national development. Further introduction of the course anew in a University is apposite. The course is structured according to NUC prescription and professional body guidelines.

In University of Ilorin, Surveying and Geoinformatics was introduced as a Five years degree course under the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, in the 2013/2014 Academic session with 17 UTME students. And the Department has however grown. We are now in 300 levels with about 130 students.
