The Department of Architecture was established in 2013 at the inception of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. It is part of the five Departments that took off as the latest Faculty within the University of Ilorin.

The department positions the University of Ilorin amongst the club of schools offering Architectural education in Nigeria. And within its current structure, the department is positioned to offer a modern architectural education that will produce graduates that can compete both in the Architecture profession and academia.

It has taken University of Ilorin too long a time to establish Department of Estate Management. It is therefore heartwarming that in the current expansion programme of the University, Department of Estate Management receives attention. The senate of the University supported the University Management proposal of the birth of Department of Estate Management in the University with the commencement date of 2013/2014 session.

Introduction and Vision

The Department of Quantity Surveying is one of the five departments that make up the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of University of Ilorin.  The department took off in 2013/2014 academic session.

The programme is structured to equip the graduates with the requisite academic and practical knowledge to meet the mission of the programme which is to educate and train our graduates for sound scientific, technical, entrepreneurial and managerial skills for the control of the project procurement process (cost, quality and time), for the benefit and satisfaction of clients, and the society. In pursuit of this mission, courses have been drawn from other disciplines such as the Physical Sciences, Engineering, Management, Law and Social Sciences as well as other disciplines in the Environmental Sciences.

Courses offered in the Department are categorized into three, namely compulsory, required and elective courses.  Students are expected to take all the compulsory and required courses and some of the elective courses, depending on their area of Interest. For graduation, the student must have taken and passed all the compulsory and required courses as well as the electives with total credit units not less than the minimum specified in the University Academic Regulation.

Quantity Surveying programme is marketable in terms of patronage and enrolment as well as job opportunities for the products. The products are to be functional and useful and are hopefully to be in demand in national affairs as well as international services.

Philosophy

The philosophy underlying Quantity Surveying education is to develop and advance the Science and practice of the profession with emphasis on construction project planning, procurement, cost management and contract administration.
