Faculty of Education

The Collaboration of Faculties of Education in West Africa (CEFWA) has just released two highly rated publications:  Journal of Research in Education and a book: Higher Education and Globalization.  These publications were launched in the recently concluded International Conference of CEFWA at the University of Lagos. Professor A.A. Adegoke of University of Ilorin is the Editor in Chief. The faculties of Education at Unilorin and Unilag parented this association that has grown in leaps and bounds within two years of existence.

The Open and Distance Learning (ODL) directorate in collaboration with the faculty is putting in final effort to actualize the proposed Post Doctoral Degree in Education (PDDE) programme scheduled to take off online by January 2012.

Arts and Social Sciences Education Department

The Department’s academic staff strength has increased with the recent appointment of three lecturers – Mr. M.I. Oniye, Mr. Saidu and Mrs. A. Aburimeh. Also two members have been promoted professors – E.O. Abdullahi and F.A.A. Olasehinde-Williams. The three members on sabbatical leaves – Dr. (Mrs.) A.A. Jekayinfa, Dr. H.O. Owolabi and  DR. R.W. Okunloye have ended the leaves and resumed work in the Department.

Counsellor Education Department

Department of Counsellor Education gets a new Head of Department!!!
Prof. Joshua Adebisi Omotosho is now the new Head of Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin. His appointment took effect as from 1st August, 2011.

Appointments! Appointments!!Appointments!!!
The Department of Counsellor Education has recorded a number of appointments recently. Top on the list is the appointment of Prof. Joshua Adebisi Omotosho to the rank of a Professor on the 1st of October, 2011. Dr. Lasiele Alabi Yahaya was also elevated to the rank of a Reader.

Newly Recruited Lecturers!!!
Four new lecturers have been appointed in the Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. These include a Lecturer II and three Assistant Lecturers.

Distinguished Service Award!!!
Prof. John Bisi Asonibare who retired from the services of the University last year, having attained the mandatory 65 years, is one of the 2011 distinguished service award recipients of the University of Ilorin.

 

Educational Management Department

Prof. D.O. Durosaro served as NUC Programme Accreditation Panelist to Faculty of Education, University of Benin in 2011.He served as the Chairman, Committee of Deans of Education in Nigerian Universities. He served as  External Assessor on Academic Staff Promotion at the University University of Education, Winneba, Ghana. He was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in service by an NGO in collaboration with UNESCO, Longman and Federal Ministry of Education.

Prof. N.Y.S. Ijaiya, the immediate past Head of Deparment was appointed the Director, Institute of Education, University of Ilorin.

Prof. N.B. Oyedeji was on Sabbatical Leave at Kwara State University, Malete between December, 2010 and May, 2011. During the period He was appointed the Pioneer Povost of the College of Education in the University. He was confered the Fellow of Institute of Nigeria Industrial Administration (FNIIA).

The Head of Department, Dr. A.Y. Abdulkareem was admitted as Fellow by the Nigerian Institute of  Mangement (NIM) (Chartered) in September 2011.

The following staff of the Department were promoted in the last Promotion Exercise:  (i) Dr. A.O. Sofoluwe – Reader ; (ii) Dr. Y.A. Fasasi- Senior Lecturer, and (iii) Dr.(Mrs) P.A.O. Etejere-Lecturer I

Senate Research Grant was given to Prof. N.Y.S. Ijaiya, Prof. D.O. Durosaro, Prof. N.B. Oyedeji, Dr. A.O. Sofoluwe, Dr. A.T. Alabi, Dr. R.O. Oduwaiye, Dr. Y.A. Fasasi and Dr. P.A.O. Etejere in 2011 to carry out research on “Committee system in University Administration: Problems and prospects”.

One Lecturer II and six Assistant Lecturers resumed duty in the Department early this Session. They are Dr. S. Oyeniran (Lecturer II), Messers A.T. Muritala, A.A. Lawal, O.J. Ojo, A.S. Adaramaja, D.B. Kayode and R.L. Abdulkareem (Assistant Lecturers).

Between January and November 2011, staff of the Department attended and presented Papers at NAERE; CEFWA; Institute of Education, University of Benin; Second University of Capecoast and University of Ilorin International Conference.
