Head of DepartmentThe head of department is Professor J.A. Omotosho Joshua Adebisi Omotosho, Ph.D is a Professor of counselling in the Department of Counsellor Education of the University of Ilorin. He holds a B.Sc. (Vocational Industrial Technical Education) degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1975, Masters in Library Science (M.L.S) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1980; a statement of completion of Masters-level coursework in Guidance and Counseling from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, USA in 1982 and a Ph.D in Guidance and Counselling from Ohio University Athens, Ohio, U.S.A. in 1984. . Prof. Omotosho started his career as Lecturer II in the Department of Educational Foundations, University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria in 1985. He later moved to University of Ilorin in 1986 as Lecturer II in the Department of the then Guidance and Counselling, now Counsellor Education Department. He rose through the ranks by dint of hard work. In recognition of his outstanding and scholarly publications, sterling administrative qualities and exemplary contribution to teaching, research and community service, he was appointed a professor in 2011. He has served as Acting Head of Department, Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin on three different occasions. He is currently the Head of Department of Counsellor Education. Prof. Omotosho’s research efforts have revolved around a number of issues in career development and adjustment, rehabilitation counselling and student affairs services. He has conducted surveys on prevalence of mid-life career change; factors affecting career change and non-change among others. These efforts have resulted in well over 40 research publications in national and international peer-reviewed journal outlets and conference proceedings. He is happily married with children.
