In furtherance of the Federal Government’s efforts in providing qualitative training and breaking the unhealthy culture of in-breeding of Academic staff in the various Federal Universities by exposing them to other intellectual traditions within and outside Nigeria, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) Nigeria, is requesting qualified candidates to apply for the 2017 Academic Staff Training and Development (AST&D) Intervention Fund. The available categories of training as contained in the TETfund guidelines are stated below:

(i)       Category A

Overseas and Local Academic Staff Training and Development leading to the award of Master degree (MA, MEd, MSc etc) or Doctorate Degree (PhD, DSc, DLitt. etc); and

(ii)      Category B

Overseas Sponsorship of Academic Staff currently registered for a Doctorate Degree programme in any of Nigerian Universities, to avail themselves of facilities instrumental to their research for not less than 3 months and not exceeding 12 months (Science-based).

            Interested applicants should note the following:

(a)      Sponsorship for Ph.D. courses is for a maximum duration of 3 years (for both Local & Overseas), while Master’s Degree is for a maximum period of 1 year (Europe & North America), 2 years (Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Thailand & UAE) and 2 years (Local).

(b)     Only candidates who are confirmed Academic Staff and whose admission is as at 2017 are eligible for nomination for full time sponsorship.  The letter of admission should clearly indicate the following:

  • Course to be undertaken
  • Duration of the Course
  • Tuition Fees
  • Living Expenses
  • Accommodation, and
  • Transport (Flight tickets only)


(c)      Priority shall be given to Programmes adjudged to require more qualified staff by accreditation panels.

(d)      Application should be submitted at the Directorate of Human Resources on the ground floor of the Senate Building.

(e)      Applicants should attach their current Curriculum Vitae to their application letters.

(f)       Respective applicants are advised to check TETFund website for current guidelines 2017 for assessing Academic Staff Training and Development (AST&D) based Intervention and list of approved Universities
